Joe Manchin Faces Supreme Court Filibuster Hypocrisy

Senate Democrats are threatening to filibuster a new Supreme Court nominee no matter who is chosen to fill the important position. One Senator who would surely disagree with this stance is the Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) of 2016. That Senator Manchin was crystal clear that Senators should have an opportunity to “vote our conscience” on a Supreme Court nominee:

“Much like how the Senate did its job on the President’s nominee for the Food and Drug Administration Commissioner, the Senate should hold committee hearings; Senators should meet with him, we should debate his qualifications on the Senate floor and cast whatever vote our conscience can allow.”

Considering Manchin’s statements from last year, he has only one option. He must allow an up and down vote on whoever the new Supreme Court nominee is.
