Andrew Cuomo’s Poll Numbers Are Plummeting

Recent negative news about Governor Andrew Cuomo (D-NY) are having a concrete and harmful impact on his political standing in the Empire State. As the Buffalo News chronicled on their front page earlier this week, America Rising’s been only too happy to point that out.

As it turns out, America Rising might have underestimated the depths of Governor Cuomo’s political troubles. A new Quinnipiac University poll finds that Governor Cuomo’s poll numbers have plunged to “near record lows.”

Governor Cuomo’s failing record bringing jobs to upstate New York has landed him with a 37% approval rating upstate versus 48% of upstate voters who disapprove of him. Even more worrying for the governor is the fact that his statewide job approval rating is down an astounding 13 net points from March:

“Plagued by low grades for his handling of mass transit, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo gets a 46 – 38 percent overall job approval rating from New York State voters, with a negative 37 – 48 percent approval rating among upstate voters, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today. Today’s approval is down from a 52 – 31 percent job approval in a March 29 survey by the independent Quinnipiac University. It is Gov. Cuomo’s lowest approval rating since a 43 – 43 percent split, his all-time lowest score, September 17, 2015.”

There are truly no bright spots for Governor Cuomo in the poll, as even his approval rating in New York City is down a net 18 percent. This is no shock though when you consider Governor Cuomo’s truly incompetent handling of the transit situation.

Given that Governor Cuomo is so anxious to stop doing his day job and become a national political figure, no number will have him more upset than the one saying New Yorkers think he’d be a bad president. Quinnipiac finds that New Yorkers say by an overwhelming 56% to 34% margin that Cuomo would “not make a good president.” That’s a tough blow to anyone, let alone for a politician as ambitious as Governor Cuomo.
