Kamala Harris Isn’t Ready For Primetime

Freshman Senator Kamala Harris (D-CA) started the week flying high. McClatchy profiled the California Senator as someone to watch in the 2020 Democratic presidential primary, saying she’s already “following the script” of a would-be candidate:

“She’s making speeches to key national constituencies. She’s due for an appearance at a Washington think-tank panel full of chattering-class presidential favorites that the national media will be reporting and analyzing, probably for days. She’s been fundraising for colleagues and making sure that she is forming relationships with key national reporters.”

Yet, the latter half of the week has exposed that Senator Harris has a long way to go if she wants to run for president in 2020. First, the Washington Post gave Senator Harris Four Pinocchios for her outrageous claims about the AHCA:

“We initially rated this claim as Three Pinocchios. Considering the totality of Harris’s statement, claiming that as many as 129 million could be denied coverage, we are changing the rating on this fact check to Four Pinocchios.”

Then on CNN, Harris was asked about the Washington Post’s fact check. Instead of admitting she was wrong, Harris defended herself in the face of incontrovertible evidence showing she was not accurate:

Judging from 2016, defending lies on national television is not a huge detriment to getting the Democratic nomination for president. Perhaps Harris really is a 2020 contender to watch.
