Supreme Court Fight Further Extends Democratic Civil War

Judge Neil Gorsuch’s nomination to be the next Associate Justice of the Supreme Court has the potential to blow any shreds of Democratic unity sky high. That’s because the tactics that extreme liberal activists want Senate Democrats to take is far different than what some Democratic Senators want to do.

Since Gorsuch’s nomination, seven Democratic Senators have said they will not support a Democratic filibuster of his nomination. The list includes Senators Heidi Heitkamp, Joe Manchin, Claire McCaskill, and Jon Tester who are up for re-election in 2018.

These types of statements from Democratic Senators has radicals like Michael Moore calling for a primary of any Democrat who does not filibuster Gorsuch:

Moveon.org Ben Wikler added that his group will remember in what way Democratic Senators act on Gorsuch:

“The next election is a while away, but what Senate Democrats do here and over the next few months will be seared into the memory of every Democratic voter.”

The executive director of Democracy for America Charles Chamberlain added that anything less than complete obstruction on the Supreme Court is “unacceptable”:

“Anything less than a complete and utter rejection of Trump’s Cabinet appointees and of their Supreme Court appointees is absolutely unacceptable.”

The divide between these red state Senators and extreme activists based in DC while be a persistent thorn in the Democratic Party’s side. If these Senators have to deal with primary challenges in 2018, the effectiveness and unity of the Democratic Party will plummet.
